New functionality: enhanced consent on patient images and videos for publication and teaching

Isla has developed new functionality allowing clinicians to request enhanced consent on patient images  for the purposes of teaching and publishing work.

  1. From within the patient’s visual record, the clinician will be able to request enhanced consent and will select the images/videos that are relevant and the purpose for which they will be used.
  2. The clinician can add a note that will be sent to the patient, explaining why additional consent is being requested.
  3. The patient will then receive both an email and an SMS from the clinician with a link to take the patient to the consent screen. The email will also have an encrypted PDF attached, showing the requested images/video to ensure they know exactly which clinical information is being discussed.
  4. Clicking the link will take the patient through a simple identity check using the patient’s year of birth.
  5. The patient will then choose which images they are comfortable consenting to.
  6. The images and videos will then be marked on Isla as having enhanced consent and can be viewed as a library of content for educational or publication purposes.

This will save clinical time as well as ensure that consent is captured and recorded accurately for visual information. This functionality was developed by clinician request, as we work to make Isla a versatile and dynamic patient record software and an EHR / EMR system that supports both clinicians and patients.
