CLCH hit milestone after milestone with Isla

Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust (CLCH) have embraced the use of Isla across the Trust. Isla is a secure platform for the capture, storage and sharing of photos, videos and structured assessment forms between patients, carers and clinicians. Since the introduction of the platform in the Trust in early 2020, there have been over 100,000 submissions to the platform, on over 10,000 unique patient records with over 1,000 active clinical users.
The platform’s reach now spans across 40 teams within 7 London boroughs across the CLCH patch, demonstrating its widespread adoption and impact. From tissue viability and care homes, to podiatry, falls prevention, and community neurology, Isla has proven its versatility and efficacy in supporting the diverse healthcare needs of the patient population. Other specialties embracing Isla include speech and language therapy, planned care, unplanned care, and lymphoedema management, with more services planned onboard the platform to grow to assist more teams across the Trust.
Feedback from CLCH staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with a key sentiment that based on other technology they have used, the platform is much easier to use than they had assumed. Staff say they are able to easily upload photos and share information across teams to input on the same patients, saving time and aiding collaborative communication.
Clinicians gave their opinions of the technology:
“WE LOVE ISLA. It made one of our processes easier and that’s enough for it to be a positive experience.”
Mercy Kazondo, Merton Tissue Viability Specialist Nurse Lead, gave her thoughts on using Isla in her work and communicating with team members:
“Isla has been helping with our day-to-day work. It’s an instant thing, you can have a nurse with a patient who takes a picture, and I can review the picture straight away. This has really helped in reducing the time that it takes to provide advice to nurses on how to treat a wound.
“Isla has improved the timing of how quickly we get the information we need such as photographic evidence of the wound. We can access it a lot quicker. Before we used to have to wait for the image to be uploaded to our EPR which could take a long time. It could have meant that patients’ reviews are delayed.
Highlights from a recent staff survey of Isla users in the Trust showed that:
- 65% of respondents reported using Isla frequently, highlighting its integral role in their daily workflows.
- Wound care emerged as a prominent area of application, with 86% of staff utilising Isla for this purpose.
- 73% agreed that capturing images using Isla was quicker compared to previous methods.
- 86% of staff agreed that the platform saved them between 5-10 minutes when capturing and storing images.
The success of the platform at CLCH has been underpinned by the engaged clinical teams and a dedicated project management team, determined to deliver the best care to their patients, and to be at the forefront of digital health technology adoption.
